Welcome to the website of the Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) Asia Chapter. CLEA is dedicated to fostering and promoting high standards of legal education within the Commonwealth. Established in 1971, CLEA is a Commonwealth-wide organization that comprises regional Chapters and Committees in Asia, Southern Africa, West Africa, the Caribbean, and Europe. In this About Us section, we provide an overview of our association's mission and objectives.
At CLEA, our primary objective is to make legal education socially relevant and professionally useful. We strive to achieve this goal through various means, including the development of law curricula and teaching methodologies. By staying at the forefront of educational advancements, we assist law schools in preparing themselves to meet the demands of the legal profession in the context of the information revolution and other global challenges.
Furthermore, CLEA is committed to supporting continuing legal education and distance learning programs. We believe in the importance of providing ongoing opportunities for legal professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills, irrespective of their geographical location. By promoting distance learning initiatives, we aim to ensure that legal education remains accessible to individuals who may face barriers to traditional educational methods.
While our overarching objective is applicable to legal jurisdictions worldwide, CLEA places a specific focus on nations within the Commonwealth, legal systems based or drawn from the Anglo-American tradition, or the Common law. We recognize the unique challenges and opportunities that these jurisdictions face, and our efforts are tailored to address their specific needs.
As the Asia Chapter of CLEA, we are dedicated to advancing legal education in this region. Through collaboration and partnerships with legal institutions, educators, and practitioners, we aim to promote excellence in legal education, uphold professional standards, and contribute to the development of the legal profession in Asia. CLEA Asia is committed to supporting and facilitating programs and initiatives that enable legal professionals to enhance their skills and knowledge throughout their careers. We collaborate with legal associations, bar councils, and other relevant bodies to provide meaningful and relevant educational opportunities.
In line with CLEA's focus on Commonwealth nations, legal systems based on or drawn from the Anglo-American tradition, or the Common law, CLEA Asia works closely with legal communities within these jurisdictions. We understand the unique legal traditions, challenges, and opportunities that exist in these countries and our initiatives are designed to address their specific needs. Through our regional conferences, workshops, and seminars, we provide platforms for legal professionals and educators to exchange ideas, share best practices, and build networks. These events foster collaboration, promote academic research, and contribute to the overall advancement of legal education in Asia.
